We at the Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness are often asked how an individual can help someone experiencing homelessness or the homeless population in general. Below are some suggestions!
By volunteering, you:
VOLUNTEER WITH AZCEH MEMBER AGENCIES
- Make a difference in someone’s life
- Make important networking contacts
- Learn or develop skills
- Share your skills with others
- Enhance your résumé
- Gain valuable work experience
- Build self-esteem and self-confidence
- Meet new people
- Give back for help you may have received in the past
- Encourage others to foster community responsibility
It goes without saying that the best thing you can give is your time. Get to know those experiencing homelessness and the obstacles they face in obtaining housing stability by volunteering at any of our Member Agencies -- check out their websites and find out what opportunities are available.
VOLUNTEER AT ANNUAL STANDDOWNS ACROSS THE STATE
Make an impact in your local community by joining with the Arizona Veteran StandDown Alliance to volunteer at an upcoming StandDown in your area! Through the efforts of StandDown events in twelve of Arizona's fifteen counties, over 3,000 veterans across Arizona who are at-risk of or already experiencing homelessness were connected to a myriad of services critical to gaining housing stability, including health care; mental and behavioral health services; identification and driver licenses; court services and legal aide; transitional and permanent housing; clothing, showers, haircuts, and many other resources.
For just the Maricopa County StandDown alone, over 1,000 volunteers are needed for the two-day event, serving over 2,000+ veterans at risk of or already experiencing homelessness. Volunteers are utilized statewide to serve as guides for veterans, assist event organizers with critical data entry, and to provide a warm welcome to all who attend each event. Join us in serving those who have served.
